June 15th is one of our favorite days of the year here at Heroes Dental. It’s National Smile Power Day and we couldn’t be more excited about it considering smiling is one of our favorite things to do!

Perfecting smiles is our daily objective here at Heroes Dental family dentistry, and today all across the nation, we’re dedicating an entire 24 hours to sharing the magnetic power of smiling with you.

If you love smiling as much as we do, today is perfect for exercising the full potential of your pearly whites.

Why do we smile? Smiling is not only a reflective reaction, it’s also the most natural expression of happiness. During pleasant situations, our natural reaction is to smile, and while radiating a joyous positivity, we also release endorphins that make us feel even better throughout the day.

Is smiling really contagious? Yes, it is! On average, more than 50% of people will return a smile, proving it causes an effect on those around you. According to a recent study conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 48% of Americans said that when meeting people, their smile is the one facial feature they remember the most.

The origin of National Smile Power Day still remains unknown but it doesn’t really matter because it’s an amazing national day of celebration regardless. In honor of National Smile Power Day, Heroes Dental wants to share with you a few of our favorite benefits of smiling more:

  • Live longer. It takes us only 17 muscles to launch a smile in any direction, while it takes a superfluous 46 muscles to deliver a frown. Now that’s something to think about. Not long ago, the London University College conducted a study in which they found that 35% of people are likely to live longer if they live cheerful lives, and that abundant grinners live to an average of 80 years. This is due to the fact that smiling lowers the heart rate, reduces blood pressure, and relaxes the body.
  • Be more successful. Smiling will not only make you feel more confident about yourself, but it will also make others feel confident about you. Your smile can make people around you feel more at ease, and help you appear more competent, courteous, and likable.
  • Develop a stronger immune system. Have you ever heard that laughter is the best medicine? That isn’t far from the truth. Our smiles are beyond powerful as they can actually make our immune system stronger, boost our mood, and improve our physical health.
  • Reduce stress. Essentially, smiling induces happiness, and happiness reduces stress. Openly smiling during stressful situations can immediately make you feel better.

Join in on the fun today and every day, discover the power of your own smile and enjoy how magnetic and contagious it can be.

Heroes Dental would like to wish everyone an amazing and bright National Smile Power Day.
